What is omitted becomes as important as what remains.
Absences develops from an ongoing process of reduction in which absence is treated not as emptiness, but as an active compositional force. In Absences III and IV, the visual language is distilled to a restricted palette and a reduced vocabulary of forms, shifting attention towards the relationships between isolated elements and the space that surrounds them.
Within this sparse field, form and void become interdependent. The remaining elements generate movement, tension and a precarious sense of equilibrium, while the expanses of white space determine their weight, rhythm and spatial presence. Absence therefore functions as structure, shaping both the composition and the viewer’s perception of what remains.
The series is built around this friction between opposing states. The forms suggest instability and latent movement, while the surrounding field appears controlled and still. Rather than resolving this contradiction, Absences sustains it, locating the work in the tension between presence and disappearance, activity and stillness, containment and release.
