THE POWER OF ART: Speaking personally and reflecting on a larger view
My own personal experience of the importance and influence of art has changed dramatically since I started painting in 2015.
When I was 14, I had the ambition of going to art school. I grew up in a humble environment in the southern uplands of Scotland. My father was a in his younger days coal miner and my mother a domestic in a local hospital. We were poor. Art school didn’t happen. I went to University in Glasgow at the age of eighteen and studied Engineering 1970 - 1974. The oil industry was growing fast at that time and that was also where the money was.
